When a baby begins to grasp and swat at objects, she is ready for the simplest DIY mobiles in the Montessori Mobile Series: bell on a ribbon and ring on a ribbon. This is a slight variation. I wanted to use blue, gold, and red bells because they are the colors in the octahedron mobile. However, I couldn't find a blue one, so she got gold, red, and silver instead. She adores them and gets good practice with focus, hand-eye coordination, and cause/effect.
I like this picture because it is obvious that she hit the gold and silver bells. (The red one is tougher because it is a bit higher.)

What a cool idea! As I'm newly expecting our second child, I'm going to get in gear and get the mobile series ready before s/he is born. Thanks for the tips. I found your post through Montessori Monday.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. Good luck with your mobile-making, and remember that your baby will love them even if they're not perfect :)
